Who knew there was a day dedicated exclusively to authors?  I didn’t, until just this minute (and shoot, there’s only 1/2 a day left).  The good news, is that we gained an hour today, so we writers get a little more time on the clock.

The story goes… While recuperating in a hospital during WWI, teacher and president of Bement, Illinois Women’s Club, Nellie Verne Burt McPherson, decided to write a thank you note to a American author, Irving Bacheller, to thank him for his work, to which he responded by sending her a signed copy of one of his other novels.  Nellie was so appreciative of his gift, she hatched the brilliant idea of having a national holiday, where people would write to their favorite authors and wish them well.

In 1949, the United States Department of Commerce recognized November 1st as National Author’s Day.

Do you have a favorite author you want to thank?

Go for it, today is the day!
